ألم تَرَ فَتحاً وما ناله
من الداءِ والبلغم الهائج
Have you not seen Fatḥ, and what befell him
from illness and the raging phlegm?
رماهُ المبرِّدُ من بَردِهِ
بسهمٍ فقُرطِسَ بالفالج
Al-Mubarrad, out of his chill, shot him
with an arrow that struck home—as palsy.
