يَقول غَبي لي صَديقٌ ذَخَرتُهُ
لِخَطبٍ مُعين لي وَلَو بِمَقالِهِ
A fool says, “I have a friend whom I have kept in reserve
For dire need, to help me—even if only with his words.”
وَلَم يَعلم المسكينُ أَنَّ صَديقَهُ
عَدوٌ مُبينٌ زائِدٌ في نِكالِهِ
The poor wretch does not know that his friend
Is a manifest enemy, adding to his torment.
