1. My heart and my speech have both grown tender

    for the most exalted lord, al-Shihābī Aḥmad.

  2. From my tongue come two remembrances: a prayerful mention,

    then a remembrance through which praise is made immortal.

  3. And in my heart are two loves: a love born of nature,

    then a love for his generosity, now firmly confirmed.

  4. Abṭaḥī in glory, ʿUmarī,

    Maḥyawī—to him all noble qualities are ascribed.

  5. He is the confidant of kings in every affair;

    upon him the little fingers of kingship are clasped.

  6. Love of him is incumbent upon everyone who be—

    —lieves in God and in the Messenger Muhammad.

  7. Ibn Faḍl Allāh has merit over us,

    and consummate beneficence; returning it is more praiseworthy.
