أَسُهادٌ وَأَدمُعٌ وَزَفيرُ
بَعضُ هَذا عَلى المُحبِّ كَثيرُ
Sleeplessness, tears, and sighing?
Even some of this is too much for a lover.
ما تَذَكَّرتُ وَصلَ حُبّيَ إِلّا
كادَ قَلبي شَوقاً إِلَيهِ يَطيرُ
Whenever I recalled a time of union, my love,
my heart nearly took wing out of longing for it.
سَكَنوهُ وَأَودَعُوهُ غَراماً
عَجَباً فيهِ جَنَّةٌ وَسَعيرُ
They made it their dwelling and lodged consuming passion within it—
what a marvel: within it are Paradise and Hellfire.
