إِذا ما شَرِبتُ الراحَ يا صاحِ فاتَني
لأَرشِفَ مِن ذاكَ الرُضابِ بَقاياها
Whenever I drink the wine, O friend, it eludes me;
I shall surely sip from that sweet saliva the traces it left.
فَإِن فاتَني رَشفُ المُدامِ فَإِنَّني
سأقنَعُ مِنها بِانتِشاقِيَ رَيّاها
And if sipping the wine eludes me, then I
shall be content to breathe in its fragrance.
