لَئِن ظَهَرت في مُقلةِ الحب حُمرَةٌ
فَما ذاكَ داءٌ يُختشى مِن بَقائِهِ
Though redness has appeared in the beloved’s eye,
it is no illness whose lingering need be feared.
وَلَكِنَّها سَيفٌ أَصابَت ادَا الهَوى
فَطارَ رَشاشٌ نَحوَها مِن دِمائِهِ
Rather, that eye is a sword: it struck love to the heart,
and a spatter of love’s blood flew toward the eye.
