1. A noble man, whose fingertips’ largesse rivals the sea,

    though to the soul it is sweeter than honey;

  2. and a wellspring of cultured graces, adorned by bearing them—

    so he eclipses Sahban and surpasses Quss.

  3. His gifts pour copiously upon every supplicant,

    and his words are pearls upon the parchment’s page.

  4. He deems the giving of thousands a trifle, while another

    deems it the utmost height if he brings forth a mere copper fals.
