1. For the paucal broken plural, there is the pattern «أفعل»;

    also «أفعلة» and «أفعال»; for the plural of multitude, there is «فُعَل».

  2. Add tāʾ to that pattern; also count «فُعل» and «الفعال», with «فعول» among its forms.

    And add tāʾ to both of those; then come «الفَعال» and «فَعّل», together with «فِعل».

  3. Add tāʾ to the preceding forms as well; also «فعلى», then «فعلى», and «أفعلاء».

    «فعلان», «فعلان», and «فَواعل», together with «فعل»;

  4. «فَعاليّ», «فَعّالى», «فَعالى», and «فَعائل»;

    and, together with «فَعلاء», «فَعلة»—thus the forms have been transmitted—

  5. «فَعالى», and whatever corresponds to the measure «فَعاعل».

    Thus the list is complete. For the collective noun there are «فعلة» together with «فعل»,

  6. «فَعالة», «فعلان», and «فعلة» together with «فعل»,

    and «فَعلاء», «مفعولاء», «مفعلة», and «فعل»;

  7. and, with variation, «فعل» together with «فَعيل» and «فعلة»;

    and, with the middle radical bearing fatḥa, «فعال», «فعل», and «فعل».

  8. The rule for a generic collective noun is that its individual form is made

    with yāʾ or with tāʾ; the converse involving tāʾ is rare—yet state it.
