أَهدى لَنا غُصُناً مِن ناضِرِ الآسِ
أَقضى القُضاة حَليفُ الجودِ وَالباسِ
He gave us a bough of verdant myrtle—
the foremost of judges, ally of bounty and valor.
لَما رَأى سَقَمي أَهداهُ مَع رَشَأٍ
حُلوِ التَجَنّي فَكانَ الشافِيَ الآسي
When he saw my sickness, he gave it with a young gazelle,
sweet in his coy cruelty; he proved the healing physician.
