O slender dune-born bough, with a moon above it,
when shall I see you bend toward your yearning lover?
O peerless one in beauty, is there anyone to aid a youth
melted away by those two tormentors: sleeplessness and lovesick wasting?
The tender green down upon your cheek enthralled him, and he fell in love;
and those two seducers—coquettish grace and slenderness—roused his passion.
Enslaved by love, he has never ceased to be infatuated with beauty;
those two sorcerers—languorous charm and luxuriant lashes—struck him down.
O you who reproach me, leave me be—or heap still more blame upon me!
For I am bewitched by one whose face is flecked with beauty marks.
His face and my soul, when he departed, were of one accord:
but sleep and my eyes, since he vanished, have gone their separate ways.
