وَقابلَني في الدَرس أَبيضُ ناعِمٌ
وَأَسمرُ لدنٌ أَورثا جسميَ الرَدى
And in the lesson I was met by a fair, smooth-skinned one,
and a supple, dusky one—the pair bequeathed my body death.
فَذا هَزَّ مِن عطفيهِ رُمحا مُثقفاً
وَذا سَلَّ مِن جفنيه عَضبا مُهندا
For this one brandished from his flanks a well-straightened spear,
while that one drew from his eyelids a keen Indian blade.
