1. وَعُلِّقتُهُ مسوَدَّ عَينٍ وَوَفرَةٍ

    وَثَوبٍ يُعاني صَنعةَ الفَحم عَن قَصدِ

    I hung him, the stains of kohl around his eyes,

    And a garment suffering from the making of charcoal, though with no intent.

  2. كَأَنَّ خُطوطَ الفَحمِ في وَجناتِهِ

    لطاخةُ مسكٍ في جَنيٍّ مِن الوَردِ

    As though the lines of charcoal on his cheeks

    Were smudges of musk on a garden of roses.
