إِذا كانَ للإِنسانِ عِندَكَ حاجَةٌ
أَتى رائِحاً فيها إِلَيكَ وَغاديا
If someone has a need to ask of you,
he comes to you about it, evening and morning.
فَإِن تَقضِها يَوماً فَلَيسَ مُسَلِّماً
عَليكَ وَيَهوى أَن يَرى لَكَ ناعيا
Yet if one day you grant it, he is no longer one to greet
you—and longs to see someone announce your death.
