1. When we came to Taqī al-Dīn, there appeared to us

    a peerless caller to God, standing alone with no refuge;

  2. upon his countenance was the radiance borne by those who accompanied

    the best of creation—a light before which the moon pales.

  3. A learned master, from whom his age robed itself in ink;

    a sea that cast forth pearls from its waves.

  4. Ibn Taymiyya arose in defense of our sacred law,

    as Taym’s lord, Abū Bakr, stood when Muḍar rebelled.

  5. He made the truth manifest when its traces had been effaced,

    and quenched evil when its sparks flew high.

  6. We used to tell of a learned master who would come—and behold:

    you are the imam who had long been awaited.
