راضَ حَبيبي عارِضٌ قَد بَدا
يا حُسنَهُ مِن عارِضٍ رائضِ
A cheek that came into view has tamed my beloved—
Oh, how lovely it is: a cheek that tames!
وَظَنَّ قَومٌ أَنَّ قَلبي سَلا
وَالأَصلُ لا يَعتَدُّ بِالعارِضِ
Some people supposed that my heart had forgotten love,
But the fundamental rule takes no account of the incidental.
