He thrilled at lightning over the Ḥimā that flickered,
and his secrets have not stayed hidden since it vanished.
Jealous even of the morning breeze,
drunk—but on the dusky lips of a slender-waisted beauty.
Like the sun—yet his face,
for the sheer beauty within it, will never be eclipsed.
His eye played the drunken reveler, though he does not
drink wine—his faith forbid it!
But the fragrance of his saliva traveled
from him to an eye that mimicked a sharpened blade.
I sickened from the sickness in his eyelids;
a lovesick invalid has never ceased infecting another.
A dusky beauty brandished before us a slender brown lance,
tempered by the fire of his cheek.
Its tip bore a crescent, and it
almost snapped beneath the weight of his haunches.
