وَزَهَّدَني في جَمعيَ المال أَنَّه
إِذا ما اِنتَهى عِندَ الفَتى فارق العُمرا
And what made me renounce my amassing of wealth is this:
It makes me reject wealth, that when
When its accumulation reaches its end with a man, he departs this life.
A young man dies, his life departs,
فَلا روحَه يَوماً أَراحَ مِن العَنا
وَلَم يَكتَسب حَمداً وَلَم يَدَّخِر أَجرا
So never once has he given his soul rest from toil,
Then never can his soul find rest
nor earned praise, nor stored up reward.
From hardship, nor gain praise, nor store reward
