إنَّ المحبين أحياءٌ وإن دُفِنوا
في التُربِ أو غُرِّقوا في الماءِ أو حُرِقوا
Indeed, lovers are alive, even if they are buried—
in the earth, or drowned in water, or burned;
أو يقتلوا بسيوف وسط معركة
أو حَتفَ أنفٍ وإن أضناهم الفَرقُ
or killed by swords in the midst of battle;
or meet natural deaths, even if terror has worn them away.
لو يسمعون منادي الحب صاح بهم
يوما لَلَبَّاهُ من بالحب يحترق
If they were to hear love’s caller cry out to them
one day, whoever burns with love would surely answer him: “At your service!”
