1. وأَخٍ رَخُصْتُ عَليْهِ حتّى مَلَّني

    والشَّيْءُ مَمْلولٌ إِذا ما يَرْخُصُ

    I granted my brother favors until I grew weary,

    For everything grows tiresome when freely granted.

  2. يا لَيْتَهُ إِذْ باعَ وِدي باعَهُ

    فيمَنْ يَزيدُ عَلَيْهِ لا مَنْ يُنْقِصُ

    Would that when he sold my love he had sold it

    To one who would surpass me, not one who would lessen it!

  3. ما في زَمانِكَ ما يَعِزُّ وُجودُهُ

    إِنْ رُمتَهُ إِلاَّ صَدِيقٌ مُخْلِصُ

    In your time, nothing’s existence brings honor

    Unless a sincere friend counts it honorable.
