أَلَسْتَ تَرى الظَّلامَ وقَدْ تَوَلّى
وعُنْقودَ الثُّرَيّا وقَدْ تَدَلّى
Do you not see the darkness as it departs
And the Pleiades as they hang low?
فَدونَكَ قَهْوَةً لَمْ يُبْقَ مِنْها
تَقادُمُ عَهْدِها إِلاَّ الأَقَلاَّ
So brew a coffee whose age remains
Only its grounds.
بَزَلْنا دَنَّها واللَّيْلُ داجٍ
فَصَيَّرَتِ الدُّجى شَمْساً وظِلاَّ
We slipped closer as the night grew dim
And the gloom made a sun and shade.
