1. O you who adorn the age and the years,

    and likewise have adorned the nights and days!

  2. Fasting, indeed, you honored with worship,

    so through you it gained still greater honor, O possessor of glory.

  3. In it you accustomed yourself to every virtue:

    bestowing kindness and striving earnestly in prayer.

  4. Upon you be a greeting from the Lord of humankind,

    and loving care—and peace bestowed on you by Him—

  5. surpassing the fragrance the garden spreads over its heights,

    while its flowers have opened their calyxes.

  6. You were sanctified—indeed, continually purified—in it,

    under a protection in which you encountered no mortal.

  7. Many a naked person you clothed, and many a hungry one—

    my master, you filled him through generous feeding.

  8. You adorned the caliphate, authority, and high glory;

    therefore God chose you as an imam for us.

  9. May you ever remain, O full moon of lofty virtues,

    gracious and generous in bestowing bounty.

  10. May your generosity continue forever, unbroken,

    gushing and streaming in copious torrents.

  11. May you remain a refuge for those in need,

    and foremost amid upheavals and battle.

  12. And may your beautiful countenance likewise remain honored,

    supported, strengthened, and smiling.

  13. You are the one whom good fortune has indeed aided—

    fortune from our Lord—and from Him you attained your desire.

  14. When God fashioned you with the finest natural disposition,

    He raised you to the highest rank and station.

  15. You are the noble one whenever noble deeds are mentioned,

    noble by nature, while noblemen pass the night asleep.

  16. May you remain an exemplar for the masters of virtue,

    a valiant hero at glory’s loftiest summit.

  17. My Lord gave you an arm from His bounty—

    how many a keen sword it has blunted upon the heads of foes!

  18. O ʿĀmir, may you remain steadfast all your life,

    compliant in whatever you desire, and ever youthful.

  19. May God bring you to your desired end through a pilgrimage

    on which you raise banners for us in Mecca,

  20. and may we visit Muhammad’s tomb in honor—

    he whom God chose as the Seal of the messengers.

  21. May God bless him whenever lightning flashes, rending

    the seam of darkness and driving its gloom away.
