أنا الفاني بهم عشقاً

فكفوا عذَّلي كفوا

I am the one perishing in love for them

So stop blaming me, stop!

أنا الراضي بهم حتما

وان يصلوا وان يجفوا

I am the one content with them absolutely

Whether they unite or they shun

قلوب لم بهم تصفو

بغيرهم فلم تصفوا

Hearts not purified by them

Were not purified by others

إذا لم يغفروا ذنبي

وزلاتي فمن يعفو

If they do not forgive my sin

And my lapses, then who will pardon?

فشأن الرب أن يعفو

وشأن العبد أن يهفو

For it is the way of the Lord to pardon

And the way of the servant to implore

رجال اللَه بي زموا

ويا أبدال بي حفوا

The men of God have determined me

And O you substitutes (saints), watch over me!

حميا القلب قد راقت

فسفوا منها سفوا

The zeal of my heart has shed blood

So stanch it, stanch it!

جمال لاح وامضه

به لفوّا له التفو

A brilliance whosebeam has shone forth

They have wrapped themselves in its wrap

جمال فوق ما وهموا

وحسن فوق ما وصفوا

A brilliance beyond what they imagined

And beauty beyond what they described

جميع العاشقين له

بومض سناه قد شغفوا

All the lovers are enraptured by

The flashing of its radiance

فلو سئلوا بمعنى ما

حقيقته فما عرفوا

So if asked about the meaning of what

Its reality is, they have not known

به العلماء قد حارت

وعن تعبيره وقفوا

By it the learned are perplexed

And confounded in expressing it

وان شطحوا وان نطقوا

وان اجتمعوا وان اختلفوا

Whether they speak ecstatically or rationally

And whether they agree or disagree

فهو من فوق ما يبدو

وهو من فوق ما يخفو

It is beyond what appears

And it is beyond what is hidden

حقيقة علمه عجز

بحال العجز اعترفوا

The reality of its knowledge has frustrated

With the state of frustration they admitted
