معسجد الخدود وردي الوجن
باهي الجمال
With blushing cheeks and rosy complexion
Of splendid beauty
مهفهف القدّ أملد اللدن
بالاعتدال
With swaying figure and soft body
In perfect proportion
قد جاوز الحدّ بحسنه الحسن
وبالكمال
Surpassing all in his beauty and perfection
A seducer who seduced me
فتان أغيد بحبه فتنى
وبه نكالي
And was my undoing
Sweet yet intense is his love, pure yet sinful
عذب اللما الحالي حبه حلالي
بلبل هو بالي فصار بالي
A nightingale he is to me, so he became mine
Yet he narrowed my life, what scheme have I now?
وضاق منه حالي فما احتيالي
وطول الصدّ لم يساعدني
His long estrangement did not help me
To unite with him
على الوصال
فصرت معمد ومسقم البدن
So I grew weak and frail of body
Like moist clay
مثل الخلالي
يا كعبة الحسن والجمال ذرى
O epitome of beauty and grace leave off
Your aloofness from me
عنك التنائي
فالحال بالبعد ليس حالي صلى
For estrangement is not my state, come closer
Forgive my waywardness
دعي جفائي
عناي قد طال بالمطال ولي
My care has been long in waiting, but
I have good hope
حسن الرجاء
فيكم إذا زان فيكم ظني
In you, so if my assumption is correct in you
Then I care not
فلا أبالي
بعاذل يعذلني وإن عذلني
For one who rebukes me, even if he rebukes me
Your love preoccupies me from he who preoccupied me
هواكم أشغلني عمن شغلني
والكلّ قد هجرني فيمن هجرني
And all have abandoned me, so who abandoned me
I care not
ولا أبالي بحد إذا نسبني
إلى الموالي
And no one who attributes me
To disloyalty
سعدي إذا أسعد ومن سعدني
على التوالي
Sa'di, when you are felicitous, and whoever makes me happy
Continuously
ليلى بليلي منور الأفق
كما نهاري
Layla illumines the horizon for me
Like my day
ونلت نيلا بها على وفق
باختياري
And I attained union with her as I desired
By my own choosing
سحبت ذيلاتها ولم أفق
من الخماري
I drew her braids and did not awaken
From my intoxication
بكلّ مشهد وهو يشاهدني
نور الجلال
With every vision that beholds me
The light of glory
ذا غاية المطامع كم فيه طامع
هذا الجمال الساطع للخير جامع
With the utmost of hopes, how many hopes in it
This radiant perfection, gatherer of good
فكم به من خاشع ساجد وراكع
قد كاد أو قد يزول به شجني
So many bow down prostrate and kneeling before it
It almost removed my sorrow

هواه سرمد فلم يفارقني
By joining me
His love is eternal, so it never left me
