سامح الخل يا فلان
بالتلاقي والاجتماع
Forgive the vinegar, O friend
In meeting and gathering together
عند ما نكس الزبان
واعتدل كوكب الذراع
When the scales are tipped
And the planet of the arm is balanced
ان ما بان ان يئن
هات لي مطرب السماع
If what appeared is to moan
Bring me the musician of hearing
واسقني قهوة الدنان
ثم هجرع على اليراع
And give me coffee of the two grinds
Then take a draught upon the pasture
عند ما غيهبان حان
وأظلم الغور والبقاع
When the two eyelids have slept
And the gorge and regions darkened
فمذهب العشاق خير مذهب
ما يقتنيه إلا ذكي مهذّب
Then the creed of lovers is the best creed
Attained only by a wise and well-mannered person
لا لوم في جاهل بذاك أعتب
دعه يكفيه امتحان
No blame to an ignorant one in that, I pardon
Let it suffice him trial
التراضي بالانقطاع
كل أعمى عن العيان
Reconciliation in cutting off
Every blind to insight
حاجبه جاذب الطباع
إي ومن أبدع الأنام
His eyelid draws nature
Yes, and the most creative of people
وأهل للحمد والثنا
قد حوى السعد والمرام
Worthy of praise and laudation
Has contained happiness and purpose
والمسرّات والهنا
المحبين يا غلام
And delights and bliss
O boy, the lovers
أهل الأحوال والفنا
أهل اكسير الائتمان
People of mystical states and annihilation
People of the elixir of trust
ليس يفشي ولا يذاع
كمثل محيي الدين تاج الابدال
Do not divulge or spread
Like the reviver of religion, the crown of saints
وبيس المواهب بو يزيد الأحوال
سعر السويني هو زكي الأعمال
And the ship of gifts, Abu Yazid of mystical states
The price of the Suyuti, the pure of deeds
طال ما رتل القرآن
في الهواجر ظمي وجاع
Long has he recited the Quran
In the hermitages, grieving and hurting
ليس يركن لكل فان
له في الزهد طول باع
Not everyone fleeting
In asceticism has a long track record
عالم قد تلبسا
حلة الشرع والكتاب
A scholar who has worn
The dress of Islamic law and scripture
طلق المال والنسا
يرتجي الفوز في المآب
Let go of wealth and women
Seeking success in the return
قد نفى فاخر الكسا
وأطيب العيش والشراب
He denied fine clothes
And the best life and drink
قد نفى الكلّ يا فلان
ما سوى بلغة المتاع
He denied everything, O friend
Except the language of goods
قد رتب الأوقات كل ساعه
في سنة المختار واتباعه
He arranged the times every hour
In the Sunnah of the Chosen One and following him
راعي اللوا والحوض والشفاعه
قد جعل لامّته أمان
The guardian of banners, basin, and intercession
He made for his nation safety
عندما يكشف القناع
لا وتاللَه لن تهان
When the veil is lifted
No, by God, his nation will not be disgraced
أمة له وهو المطاع
For him while he is obeyed
