احذر على ليلى عيون الأغيار
واحذر تجنب بين تلك الأخدار
Beware the eyes of strangers upon Laila
And beware wandering between those cheeks
فكم بها من ضيغم وجبار
وربّ سيف منه حتف الأعمار
For how much deceit and tyranny lies there
And many a sword that ends lives
وقف على حكم السبب والآداب
في الحكم لا تبرح ملازم الباب
Stand by the wisdom of cause and manners
In judgment never leave the gate
ما باطن إلا وظاهر آداب
كذا ورد في حكمهم والأخبار
No inner without outer manners
Thus decreed in their judgment and news
ظنّ التصوّف جاهل المدارس
ضرب السماع أو لبسه القلانس
The ignorant of schools thought Sufism
Was the sama' or wearing wool
أو نطقه بالشطح في المجالس
هيهات ما هذا طريق الاخيار
Or uttering ecstasy in gatherings
Alas! This is not the path of the virtuous
ان العباده يا ملصة الناس
بغير علم كالبنا بلا أساس
O you who seek closeness to people
Worship without knowledge is like building without foundation
لِلّه درّ العارفين الأكياس
عن رق أهواء النفوس أحرار
Praise be to the Lord of the wise saints
Free from the thinness of carnal desires
من لا دليله قايف الشريعة
فهو أسير ابليس والطبيعه
He whose guide is not the Sharia
Is prisoner to Iblis and nature
وكم خيالات له شنيعه
يظنها أنوار وهي أكدار
And how ugly are his delusions
Which he thinks are lights but are darknesses
يا جاهلاً بالعلم كم تزندق
ليس السماع الحق تركك الحق
O ignorant of knowledge how much you blaspheme
Sama' is not the truth, leaving truth is
ان كان مطلوبك تكن موفق
فاسلك طريق المتقين الأبرار
If you seek the sought, be granted success
So take the path of the righteous and devout
يا مدّعي من ربه المواهب
مالك تكلف قلبك المكاسب
O you who claim gifts from your Lord
Why trouble your heart with acquisitions?
تقول أنا مطلوب وأنت طالب
ان الطريقة في الحقيقة أطوار
You say "I am the sought" yet you are the seeker
The way is but states in the Real
السعي هو سنته في الطريقه
ثم التوكل حالة الحقيقه
Striving is His sunna in the way
While reliance is the state of the Real
وكم دقيقة دونها دقيقة
يحققها العارفون الاخيار
And how much subtlety beyond subtlety
Realized by the excellent knowers
قواعد التحقيق يا ملازم
هو اجتنابك جملت المآثم
Principles of verification, O steadfast one
Are avoiding altogether sins
ثم اتباعك للرسول دائم
من ها هنا تثمر علوم الاسرار
Then following the Messenger always
From here the sciences of secrets bear fruit
