1. Sweet one, you have made my tears flow;

    through separation—may God bring you back.

  2. You have kept my eyes awake by night,

    and longing for you is a fierce torment.

  3. I imagine you throughout my night,

    though you are far away from us.

  4. Your dwelling is the very heart of my soul,

    and I am the lowliest of your servants.

  5. My soul be ransom for the one who forsook us,

    who possessed us with his beauty,

  6. and distracted us from every other concern,

    though he withdrew or wronged us.

  7. When, oh when shall I meet my beloved,

    and this distraught al-ʿĪd be healed?

  8. To the Almighty I brought my complaint,

    that He might grant me what I desire.

  9. I swear, among the fair I love none

    but you, O languid-eyed gazelle,

  10. O languorous one with wide eyes.

    Meeting you is my utmost desire.

  11. The sash has adorned the swelling breast,

    whose pomegranate tempts one to pluck its fruit.

  12. Nothing has cooled my burning passion

    except sipping the pure nectar of that mouth.

  13. Hasten to my aid, O Umm Hani,

    with union, O queen of beauties.

  14. The day my eyes behold her

    will be a day of festival.

  15. May God grant joy through her,

    whose morning has ever remained blessed.

  16. How far is the one dwelling in Aden

    from al-ʿArsh fortress in Radaʿ!

  17. That is what deepened my sorrow

    and made anguish swell my pangs.

  18. I appeal to the One of boundless favors

    to incline toward us and reunite us,

  19. now that my desire has been granted

    by Mālik, victorious and praiseworthy.

  20. Through ʿĀmir, God has made our life flourish;

    by his good fortune we have prospered.

  21. The abundance of his generosity has engulfed us;

    he gave still more, enriching and endowing.

  22. God has dispelled my distress

    through his vast, enduring generosity,

  23. and granted me beyond my expectations—

    nothing could surpass what he has done.
