And clad in a dusky robe of silk-and-wool khazz,
Wearing a dress of dark satin
with a leg-garment and head-veil of green brocade,
And of green brocade that glimmers and shines
an amber rosary strung about her throat—
At her neck a necklace of ambergris
though she had never sought to perfume herself.
Though she did not seek to perfume herself
She has two eyes of Yemeni banded onyx, whose lids have taken
With Yemeni kohl on her eyelids
safflower dye in the place of kohl.
That took on a saffron hue from the kohl
Her two sleeves are embroidered with a pattern you would fancy,
Her sleeves embroidered with patterns
for its even ordering, lines drawn from the blackness of night.
That her nightly vigil created like lines of prose
