شَرِبتُ الخَمرَ في رَمَضانَ حَتّى

رَأَيتُ البَدرَ لِلشِعرَى شَريكا

I drank wine during Ramadan until

I saw the full moon as a companion to Sirius.

فَقالَ أَخي الدَيوكُ مُنادياتٌ

فَقُلتُ لَهُ وَما يُدري الدَيوكا

Then my brother said, "The roosters are crowing,"

And I said to him, "What do the roosters know?"
