And loyal youths of Tamim, whose faces,
And truthful young men from Tameem, their faces
Many a loyal youth from Tamim, whose faces,
though the noonday heats have scorched them, remain fair and bright.
Though whipped by winds, shine bright
though scorched by the blazing noons, remain radiant.
One day I raised for them a broad, outstretched pavilion,
One day I pitched them a wide tent
One day, I raised for them a widely stretched tent,
on six spears that dip low and spring aloft.
With six spears to prop and guard
upon six spears, sweeping low and soaring high.
Their hands lower it, so that it seems
Their hands bring it down, so it’s like
Their hands pull it down, so that it seems
a male ostrich swaying above their heads.
A shade on their brows swaying gentle
like a male ostrich swaying above their heads.
As though we had tethered to the pavilion a conspicuous,
As if we had tied to that tent banners
As if we had tethered to the tent a conspicuous beast,
rangy horse, striding and kicking out.
Of horses pacing, marching ahead
from among the steeds, lean and swift, pacing and kicking.
