Abu Mundhir, you examined matters and questioned them
O Abu Mundhir, you sought out matters and weighed them,
Like a hard bargainer carefully weighing options.
And inquired about them like an eager bargainer.
Yet no man of wisdom did you test his views
Any man of judgment among the people you compared
Against your best judgment, the wisdom of beasts.
To your exemplary judgment, had the judgment of mere beasts.
Without your leadership Iraq would not exist
O Abu Mundhir, were it not for your march, there would be no
Nor would the Persian kings have bowed in defeat,
Iraq, nor would the kings of the non-Arabs have submitted.
None since you would have made the pilgrim's hajj
Nor would any rider make pilgrimage to the House of Allah,
Or dwelt in the valley after the seasons changed.
Nor would the Batha valley thrive after the pilgrimage seasons.
Between San and Jazza how many you left dead,
How many a slain man lies between San and Jazza,
Mighty lord who felled the stoutest warriors.
A bestower of abundant favors, from among the mighty kings.
In the land of Juzjan I left lions to visit them,
I left him in the land of Juzjan, visited by
Hyenas and crows to feast on fallen heroes.
Beasts of prey and eagles severing his windpipes.
The swords of Zuwaqa among them cut a path
A lord over subjects, bearing the deep stroke of the sword,
Where destitute souls still lament their fate.
With but a fleeting breath of life, over whom the hovering birds circle.
Some flee while others owe us a blood debt,
So some flee from us, while others submit to us,
Captives who suffer at the hands of executioners.
As captives enduring heavy, unyielding shackles.
To save you, Tamim and Amir have sacrificed lives,
May souls from Tamim and 'Amir be your ransom,
As well as Mudar's ruddy clans in the thick of battle.
And from the Red Mudar in times of fierce crisis.
They roused the anger of the Khan against us till
They are the ones who made the Khaqan covetous of us, so his
His hordes hoped to make our wealth their spoils.
Gathered hordes awoke, hoping to seize the spoils.
