The nursling of wine—his soul has parted from the vintage,
The infant of the tavern left his soul
The soul of the one suckled on wine has parted from the cup,
and he remained bent over it, his tears streaming.
And upon it remained the outpouring of tears
And thus he remained, shedding a downpour of tears over it.
You two, pass me the cup—for I have been deprived of it,
Pass me the cup for I have lost it
Pass the cup to me, my companions, for I have lost it,
as a weaned child is deprived of the milk flowing from nursing mothers.
As the weaned child lost the breast of the wet nurse
Just as the weaned infant has lost the flowing milk of the wet nurses.
