1. فَما حَرَّمَ الرَحمَنُ مِن تمرِ عجوةٍ

    وَلا ما سَقانا من ركيَّتِهِ سَعدُ

    What the Merciful forbade not of luscious dates,

    Nor the wine He gave us from his generosity to drink,

  2. إِذا طرحا في الدَنِّ أخرجَ مِنهُما

    شَرابٌ يَروقُ العينَ منظرهُ وَردُ

    When both are cast into the bowl, there comes forth

    A beverage, sight of which delights the eye like a rose.

  3. نباكِر أخذ الكأسِ حَتّى كَأَنَّنا

    نَرى في الضُحى أَطنابَ خيمتنا تَعدو

    Maidens take up the goblets till it seems as though

    We see at dawn the tent-ropes of our camp marching on.
