شغفت بداية لي اشتهيها

وما فيها عن الوصل امتناعُ

I was infatuated at the start, desiring what's in her

بباردة المجس وما اقشعرت

معصبة وليس بها صداع

With her cold touch, yet no shiver went through me

Upset, yet no headache in me

تمنع أو تحل ذؤابتاها

ويحسر عن مفارقها القناع

She may forbid or permit her sweetness

And the mask departs reluctantly from her
