The whole of my tale is that I rode toward

My legs took me to your house

your house; reaching it meant courting danger.

When danger approached it

لبست دراعتي وعمتي ال

خز فصارا كما ترى حبرا

I put on my tunic and my turban of

I wore my armor and robe

silk, and both became, as you see, mottled cloth.

They became, as you see, ink

أصبحت في الطين عقعقاً بلقاً

أصبحت في الطين عقعقاً بلقاً

وإن تعريت خلتني نمرا

وإن تعريت خلتني نمرا

In the mud I became a pied magpie;

I became in the mud a quack, muddy

and if I stripped bare, you would take me for a leopard.

And if you undress me, you leave me a tiger
