علقت مفترس الصراغم فارساً

رحب المدى والصدر والميدان

The predator of battles hung a knight,

Spacious in extent, chest, and battlefield.

خود الحصان على أقبّ حصان

A Turkish moon that witnesses he is not

ييرمي بلحظيه القلوب وسهمه

فعجبت كيف تشابه السهمان

He casts with his glances hearts and his arrow,

البدر في ظل الغمامة والنقا

في سرجه والغصن في الخفتان

ألفت طرته وغرته وما

كان الدجى والصبح يأتلفان

ورمى بلحظيه القلوب وسهمه

فعجبت كيف تشابه السهمان

And he cast with his glances hearts and his arrow,

بطل حمائله كعارضة وحا

جبه الأرج كقوسه المرنان

حييته فدنا وأمطر راحتي

قبلا فليت فمي مكان بناني

وخدعته بالكأس حتى ارتاض لي

ودرأت عني الحد بالكتمان

And I deceived him with the chalice until he calmed down for me,

And I warded off harm with concealment.

والمرء ما شغلته فرصة لذة

ناسى العواقب آمن الحدثان

A person busied with an opportunity of pleasure

Forgets the consequences, believes the events.
