Many a gazelle have I loved

Many a light gazelle thrives

Many a gazelle have I loved,

who traced his lineage to Hawāzin.

Whose lineage is Hawazin

Who traces his lineage to the Hawazin tribe.

قلتُ ما أثْقَلَ الهَوَى

قلتُ ما أثْقَلَ الهَوَى

قَالَ ما للهَوى زِنَهْ

قَالَ ما للهَوى زِنَهْ

I said, “How heavy love is!”

I said how heavy is love?

I complained, "How heavy is the burden of love!"

He said, “Love has no weight.”

He said love has no weight

He replied, "Love carries no weight at all."
