وَلَدي يَومَ مَوتِهِ
أَصبَحَ الدَهرُ ذا عَبَث
On the day my son died
My son, on the day of his death,
Life became meaningless
Fate became a senseless mockery.
قَد أكِنَّ الأَسى فإِن
غَلَبَ الدَمعُ ذاعَ بَث
Though I was full of sorrow
I conceal my sorrow, yet if
My tears overflowed unrestrained
Tears overcome me, my grief is laid bare.
