Noble virtues died—and my son with them;
The virtues are dead and so are their sons
Noble virtues have died, and my son,
all deeds of honor died.
The generous acts have passed away
And acts of honor have perished.
Would that those whom I see—
Would that those whom I see
Would that those whom I behold,
with deceit in their midst—had died instead.
Deceitful as they are, had passed away
In whom lies treachery, had died.
