تفرعت من جرثومة المجد والعلى

فجئت معماً في العشيرة مخولا

I branched from the seed of glory and loftiness

So I came as a pillar in the tribe, endowed

ابو طالب شيخ الأباطح كلها

ابوك ومن يطري الهمام المبجلا

Abu Talib, sheikh of all the meadows

Your father who makes the auspicious fly high

ثوى مؤمنا بالله صدقاً وانما

على دين إبراهيم قد كان أولا

He believed in Allah truly and only

On the religion of Abraham which was first

فأرشد به للدين عوناً وناصراً

وامنع به حصناً لطه ومعقلا

So he guided with it to the religion, aiding and victorious

And forbade with it, a fortress for Taha and refuge

به عز دين الله إذ قام دونه

يجرد مسنونين عزماً ومنصلا

With it the religion of Allah was mighty when he stood up for it

Baring blades, determined and armed

وأنت سليل الليث حاميت بعده

عرين العلا والسؤدد المتأثلا

And you are the lion cub, his defender after him

Of the lofty nest and the honored place

فنعم المحامي والمواسي بنفسه

اخاه إذا اشتد البلاء واعضلا

So excellent is the defender and comforter with himself

His brother when affliction intensifies and twists

سبقت إلى الإسلام تتبع هديه

وصليت قبل المسلمين تنقلا

You preceded to Islam, following its guidance

And prayed before the Muslims, in succession

تهلل وجه الدين بالبشر والهنا

خليق به لما رأك تهللا

The face of the religion cheers with good news and ease

Worthy of it when it saw you cheer

وفاض الهدى فيضاً واصبح ربعه

خصيب الثرى مذ فاض سيفك جدولا

And guidance overflowed copiously and its pasture

Became fertile soil since your sword streamed

من المشتري في طاعة الله نفسه

ليدفع كيد المشركين ويبطلا

Purchasing with his soul obedience to Allah

To repel the plot of the polytheists and nullify

فباهى به غر الملائك شاكراً

مساعي أولاها الثناء المفضلا

So the near angel boasted, thanking

His efforts, extolling them as most virtuous

فنفسك نفس المصطفى في صفاتها

بوحي به الروح الأمين تنزلا

So your soul is the soul of the Chosen in its traits

The Trustworthy Spirit reveals it in revelation

وقد كنت منه والفضائل جمة

كهرون من موسى محلا ومنزلا

And you had been from him and abundant virtues

Like Harun from Moses, place and station

وفي يوم بدر وهي اعظم وقعة

بها اندك ركن الشرك حتى تهيلا

And on the day of Badr, the greatest event

In which the pillar of polytheism collapsed utterly

سقيت قريشا اكؤس الحرب مرة

وقد حسبوا ان يشربوا الراح سلسلا

You quenched Quraysh a cup of war once

And they thought to drink comfort in chains

وغادرت في احد عميد لوائهم

طليحة معفور الجبين مجدلا

And on Ohod you left their leader lifeless

Taliha, branded on the forehead, bloodied

تنافحهم قدماً تفل جموعهم

بابيض من قرع الحديد تفللا

You pushed them back, their crowds retreating

With the white of sword's clanging appearing dented

ومذ عطفت خيل الضلال طوالعاً

من الثغر تردي بالأسنة ذبلا

And when the horses of misguidance turned

From the border, fleeing with idle tongues

صبرت على الأهوال نفس ابن غابة

اشاح بسربال الردى متسربلا

The soul of Ibn Ghaba endured the horrors

Donning the garb of firmness, fully clothed

تذب عن الهادي فتور دجحفلا

حياض الردى عنه وتصدر جحفلا

Defending the Guide from the lassitude of Dhi Jadhal

Repelling the gowns of firmness from him and stepping forward

ولولاك فازت بالمعلى قداحهم

ودارت على الإسلام دائرة البلى

And were it not for you, their arrows would have won high status

And the circle of destruction turned on Islam

فنوه جبريل بمجدك لا فتى

ولا سيف تنويهاً به ملأ الملا

So Jibril extolled your glory - no knight

Or sword - filling the heavens

هنالك لو تبغي رجالا وجدتهم

بأخزى مقام هاربين واسفلا

There, if you sought men, you would have found them

In the most despised place, fleeing disgracefully

وكنت المحامي في حنين من الهدى

وقد فرّ عنه القوم أخول أخولا

And you were the defender in Hunayn of guidance

While the people fled bewilderedly

وصبت على الأحزاب منك بوائق

اعدن بهم ليل النوائب اليلا

And you poured on the factions from you afflictions

Bringing back on them the night of adversities

غداة التقى الايمان بالشرك كله

فشد قوى الإسلام مشيك مرقلا

The next morning faith met polytheism entirely

So the strength of Islam marched with you leading steadfastly

تسوق لعمرو وهو فارس يليل

صروف المنايا والحمام المعجلا

The vicissitudes of fate and sudden death

Pride of the earth lies slain by your sword bloodily

فخر لوجه الأرض بركب ردعه

صريعاً به قد هد سيفك مجدلا

And the knights handed him over while their horses

Neighed like the snorting of wild animals whipped

واسلمه الفرسان تحضر خيلهم

نجاء كامثيال النعائم جفلا

And it is no shame that the brother of aid appoints

The lion's sight, perceiving, advancing

وليس بعار ان يولي مدبراً

أخو نجدات ابصر الليث مقبلا

With your sword the burdens are honored by its sharpness

And pride in it rises to the honor of highness

بسيفك مجد للتقيل بحده

وفخر به يرقى إلى شرف العلى

So it is equal if with it a brave's head rises

Like mine, or crowns him, garlanded

فسيان ان تعلو به رأس فارس

كمي وان تكسوه تاجاً مكللا

And in Khaibar the standard rose in your palm

Divine victory descended upon you

وفي خيبر رفت بكفك راية

عليك بها النصر الألهي انزلا

The tall fell short of it one morning

When I came broader in battles and taller

تقاصر عنها المستطيلان غدوة

لأرحب باعاً في الخطوب واطولا

And yesterday adversity had branded it

So when your palm marked it, it gained elevation and beauty

وقد وسماها أمس ذلا فمذ سمت

بكفك حازت رفعة وتجملا

And when you tore down the door, no structure remained standing

For those fortresses but tottering

ولما قلعت الباب لم يبق باذخ

لتلك الحصون الشم الاتزلزلا

And by my life, those are of your glimpses that

Amaze those interpreting in interpretation

وتلك لعمري من بواهرك التي

تحير في تأويلها من تأولا

Stations you waded into death, wrestling

The darkness of events until the truth dawned and cleared

مواقف خضت الموت فيهن صارعاً

دجى الخطب حتى اسفر الحق وانجلى

And when the two violators assumed and overturned

The command to you, seeking it and changing

و لما تولى الناكثان وقلبا

لك الأمر بغياً منهما وتبدلا

You requited them measure for measure and tomorrow

Their fullest requital, hellfire burning

جزيتهما صاعا بصاع وفي غد

جزاؤهما الأوفى جهنم تصطلى

And you assumed leadership of the Mother of Believers in what she harvested

Beautiful, pardon, all-encompassing and gracious

ووليت أم المؤمنين بما جنت

جميلا وعفوا شاملا وتفضلا

Aisha fought the successor and her fighting

Was like fighting Allah's Messenger, explicitly

اعائش حاربت الوصي وحربه

كحرب رسول الله نصا مفصلا

Beyond the veil of Allah, she became misguided

On the camel, folding and unfolding

ابعد حجاب الله أوجفت ضلة

على جمل يطوى المهامه والفا

So the dogs of the deviants barked

At you and did not increase you but deeper involvement

فهرت كلاب الحوئبين نوابحاً

عليك وما زادتك الا توغلا

You rode tremendously and the hadith belongs to its people

Sorrows and condemnation, so whoever wishes, less involvement

ركبت عظيما والحديث لأهله

شجون وتبريح فمن شاء قللا

And Damascus, Son of Hind, your sword flashed at it

At Siffin, washing away its ravines

وشام ابن هند من حسامك بارقا

بصفين سالت منه أودية الطلى

So he resorted to the sides of steeds protecting him

Resort of panicking birds when they spotted vultures

فلاذ باعطاف الجياد تحوطه

ملاذ بغاث الطير ابصرن اجدلا

And Amr feared facing you so he avoided

With his evil the form of evil when it took form

وخاطر عمرو في لقائك فاتقى

بسوأته شخص الردى إذ تمثلا

You turned him back and if not for customary pardon and forbearance

You would have threaded his canine with wire

صددت ولو لا عادة العفو والحيا

نظمت بر فغيه السنان المؤللا

He called you to arbitration deceitfully and had he called

Your sharp sword the judge, it would have decided

دعاك إلى التحكيم كيدا ولودعا

حسامك الفى حاكم السيف فيصلا

So Abu Musa deviated from fairness, wronging

And Amr accompanied him with lies and deceit

فحادا بو موسى عن القصد جائرا

وداف له عمرو مع الشهد حنظلا

Far are you from arbitrating a twisted dissembler

Who hates you but could not find a way to be rid of you

وحاشاك من تحكيم اهوج مضمر

لك البغض لكن لم تجد عنه مزحلا

You obliged them to the Book's ruling but his desire

Turned him from the clear truth so he lingered

والزمته حكم الكتاب فصده

هواه عن الحق المبين فأبسلا

Does he seek to remove the mantle of your patronage

That you singled out one day by which religion perfected?

ايخلع عن عطفيك برد خلافة

خصصت بها يوماً به الدين اكملا

One appointed by Allah as proof cannot be prevented glory

Or removed and dismissed

ومن كان منصوبا من الله حجة

تمنع عزا ان ويزول يعزلا

My intimate in the depths, the agony remains

Refusing to leave me for ages to settle

خليلي في الأحشاء لاعج لوعة

ابت لي طوال الدهر ان اتعللا

So do not remind of the day of Ghdir, giving its tidings

With lasting sorrow instead of happiness

فلا تذكرا يوم الغدير فبشره

بطول الأسى يوم الفعيلة بدلا

Wearing it unjustly, ancient in its pact

And new in its text, the day of Khum in succession

تقمصها ظلما عتيق وعهدها

جديد بنص يوم خم تسلسلا

And the coarse dissolver dissolved its link

To seize command then dissolve

وانحلها الفظ الغليظ تعاقداً

على الأمر ان يبتزها ثم ينحلا

Making it raging blindness and misguidance

While the light of guidance from the house of revelation appears

فصيرها شوى عمى وضلالة

ونور الهدى من منزل الوحي يجتلى

So for Allah what raging confusion it provoked

And brought upon Islam and the religion complexities

فلله شوى قد اثارت عجاجة

وجرت على الإسلام والدين معضلا
