بالعلم تشيد مكتبنا

والله إليه يوفقنا

With knowledge we build our office

And God guides us to it

تزهو ازهار معارفه

فالورد يطيب لقاطفه

Its flowers of knowledge blossom

So the rose smells sweet to the picker

والورد يلذ لراشفه

فيه الأرواء لغلتنا

And the rose tastes sweet to the savorer

In it is the irrigation for our thirst

قد لاح العلم بغرته

ومضى بالجهل وظلمته

Knowledge has shone with its splendor

And passed away with ignorance and its darkness

أهلا بالعلم وطلعته

قد اقبل بالاقبال لنا

Welcome knowledge and its rising

It has come with great arrival for us

يا من بمحياه البهج

سر الأرواح مع المهج

O you whose smile is bliss

The secret of souls with passion

بنسيمك ذياك الأرج

نفحات الوصل تبشرنا

With your breeze, that fragrance

Breezes of connection give us good news

تشتاق وصالك ناشئة

لورود حياضك ظامئة

The youth long for your connection

Thirsty for the flowers of your meadows

هي واقعة لك لاجئة

بك تجلو مطلعك الحسنا

It has fallen to you as a refugee

Through you its beautiful horizon becomes clear

فربوع الشرق مؤملة

وعلى لقياك معولة

So the lands of the East are hopeful

And dependent on meeting you

والأرض لبعدك ممحلة

فاسق الجدب حياً هتنا

And the land is anguished in your absence

So revive the barren land that enthralled us

علم الإسلام على القدم

قد كان النور على العلم

The knowledge of Islam from the beginning

Was light upon knowledge

وامتد سناه على الأمم

فازال ظلامهم الدجنا

And its brilliance extended over nations

So it removed their dark gloom

من مشرقنا النور التمعا

وظلام الغرب به انقشعا

From our east shone the glittering light

And the darkness of the West was unveiled by it

فجزيت الشرق بما صنعا

يا غرب فهجت له المحنا

So the East was rewarded for what it did

Oh West, it sang dirges for you

وزعمت بانك للبشر

حام تنجيه من الخطر

And you claimed to be the protector of mankind

Saving it from danger

فهجمت بشرك ذي الشرر

فملأت عوالمها شجنا

But your evil ones attacked

And filled its worlds with sorrow

فهدمت قواعد سلطته

وغنمت فوائد ثروته

So you demolished the foundations of its power

And seized the benefits of its wealth

وقسمت ممالك دولته

ابهذا العدل تعللنا

And divided the kingdoms of its state

Is this the justice you argue for us?

فكأني بالشرق قد اتحدا

وجزاك بيوم جفاك غدا

It is as if I see the East united

And repaying you for the day you were unjust

فوردت المر كما وردا

ويكون البادئ اظلمنا

So you tasted bitterness as you deserved

And the aggressor became the most unjust

يا جهل قضيت على الوطن

وجلبت الشر إلى المدن

Oh ignorance, you destroyed the nation

And brought evil into cities

ولكم اسلمت إلى المحن

شعباً لك اصبح ممتهنا

And to how many tribulations did you surrender

A people who through you have become destitute

حتام نكابد منك أذى

أخلقت لعين المجد قذى

We will surely suffer harm from you

You have created thorns in the eye of glory

سنثير عليك الحرب إذا

خفقت رايات العلم بنا

We will stir up war against you

When the banners of knowledge wave through us

فاسقط يا جهل إلى الدرك

وانهض يا علم إلى الفلك

So fall into darkness, Oh ignorance

And arise to the stars, Oh knowledge

واصدع بسناك دجى الحلك

لتنير ربوعك والوطنا

And smash the gloom of the firmament with your brilliance

To illuminate your lands and the nation
