1. عطف الدل قده فتأود

    فانثنى الغصن وهو يثني على القد

    His gentle bending as the branches bend,

    Swaying gracefully to his slender waist.

  2. ان روت بانة حديث التثني

    فإلى قده المهفهف يسند

    If the whisper of his swaying was heard,

    He leans for support on his bending shape.

  3. نفثت مقلتاه سحراً حلالا

    في قلوب بشعر صدغيه تعقد

    His glances poured magic oh so sweet,

    Into hearts enchained by his smooth cheeks.

  4. ما الذي ينقم العواذل في حب

    مليح غض الشبيبه أغيد

    What do the passionate blame in love

    For a beautiful, youthful, tender bud?

  5. أشقيق الخدود أم نرجس الأجفان

    أم أقحوان ثغر منضد

    Is it the apple cheeks or the narcissus lids,

    Or the mouth like pearls finely lined?

  6. ثعلي الجفون كم من قتيل

    قد رماه بنبلهن فاقصد

    Many a slain victim of the eyelids

    Struck down by their arrows of glance.

  7. رشأ ينتمي إلى العرب لكن

    سيف الحاظه المراض مهند

    A branch belonging to Arabs but

    The keen sword of passion shreds.

  8. عجباً للعيون تجرح لبى

    ولها القلب بالملاحه يشهد

    Wondrous are the eyes that wound a heart

    While it witnesses their glances.

  9. قد أراقت دمي وشاهد قتلي

    خده الناظر الصقيل المورّد

    They shed my blood and witnessed my murder

    The smooth cheek of the watcher, reddened.

  10. يا كثير الصدود صل مستهاماً

    ليس يقوى على جفائك والصد

    O oft resistant, make peace submissively

    For none can withstand your disdain.

  11. واطف يا كامل المحاسن حر

    الوجد في نهلة الرضاب المبرد

    Be gentle, O perfect in beauty, ardour

    Quenched in the valley of pleasure cooled.

  12. وارث يا ناعس الجفون لصب

    ليله مثل حبه لك سرمد

    Awaken, O sleepy-eyed, to a night

    Of love for you, everlasting.

  13. ليت عينيك وهي تعدي سقاماً

    برقاد تعدي الكئيب المسهد

    Would that your eyes which bring ruin

    In slumber, avoid the gloomy enchained.

  14. كاد يقضي من الصبابة ولا

    بشر يوم به تجلى محمد

    Youth almost passed with no good tiding,

    Till the day Muhammad appeared.

  15. ازهرت روضة البشائر فيه

    وبها طائر المسرّة غرد

    The garden of tidings bloomed through him,

    The bird of joy sang through him.

  16. جاء والعيد مقبلين جميعاً

    وكلا الطالعين سر وأسعد

    He came and the feast came together,

    Both rising, secret and most blessed.

  17. قد زكا محتدا وقد طاب فرعاً

    بوركت من فروع مجد ومحتد

    His virtue manifested, his branch now wholesome,

    Blessed among branches of glory and belief.

  18. ماجد تجمع المكارم فيه

    فهو في جمعه المكارم مفرد

    Majid in whom all virtues convene

    So he in his gathering of virtues is unparalleled.

  19. لو حكى واكف السحاب نداه

    كان صوب الحيا نضارا وعسجد

    If soft clouds told of his voice,

    It would face life, blossoming, branching.

  20. ينظم الحمد في علاه ولكن

    في الندى شمل وفره يتبدد

    He composes praise in his exaltation but

    In dew, his encompassing bounty disperses.

  21. آل زين العباد أكرم آل

    ورثوا الفضل اصيداً بعد اصيد

    The House of Zainalabidin is the noblest house

    That inherited merit, one after another.

  22. البهاليل ان تفاقم خطب

    والمقاويل ان تجمّع محشد

    When misfortunes gather intensity,

    And multitudes of armies converge,

  23. علماء جاؤا بفصل خطاب

    ارأيت السيوف حين تجرّد

    Scholars who pronounced discourse

    Have you seen swords when they are unsheathed?

  24. في سماء العلاء لاحوا بدوراً

    مشرقات ضياؤها يتوقد

    In the sky of the exalted, mansions shine

    Whose radiance is everlit.

  25. نعم مستعصم الأنام حسين

    فبه ايدت شريعة أحمد

    Yes, al-Musta’sim, the protector of mankind

    Through whom Ahmad’s law was supported.

  26. وبه مهدت قواعد شرع

    إذن الله فيه ان يتمهد

    Through whom the foundations of canon were laid

    By God’s permission to be founded.

  27. شيد الدين فاستقام وما ان

    يستقيم البناء مالم يشيد

    He established religion so it straightened

    And no building stands unless first founded.

  28. طوق الله خلقه طوق نعمى

    حين اضحى بها الامام المقلد

    God graced him with a cloak of favor

    When the imam wore it, distinguished.

  29. علم الرشد والهدى مستقيم

    أيها المهتدى هلم لترشد

    The guidance of integrity upright,

    O guided one, come so you are guided.

  30. وعلي العلاء نعم المحامي

    بشبا عزمه ورأي مسدد

    And Ali is the best advocate for the exalted,

    With his resolute wisdom and sound judgement.

  31. قاد صعب العلا فاسلس طوعاً

    في يديه منه زمام ومقود

    He led the difficult ascents with ease,

    The reins and guiding rope in his hands.

  32. أيها المبتغي نظير علي

    خلنا من طلاب ما ليس يوجد

    O seeker, none compares to Ali,

    Spare us seeking what cannot be found!

  33. ان تقل ليث غابة قلت اجرى

    أو تقل غيث مزنة قلت اجود

    If you say a lion in a jungle, I say charging.

    Or you say a torrential rain, I say pouring.
