1. مسمعة تطرب الحانها

    لكنها ليست بسماعه

    A musical hourglass, though not a listener,

    Entrances with melodies played within.

  2. وأنت تلقاها بسمع كما

    تلقاك في أمرك بالطاعه

    You hear it as though it hears your command,

    Obedient in all that you ask it to do.

  3. لها بروج ولها عقرب

    لا يألف البرج سوى ساعه

    It has signs and it has a pointer,

    Aligned but for a fleeting hour.

  4. ويبدع الرقاص في رقصه

    إذ يسمع الضرب وايقاعه

    The dancer choreographs artfully,

    Step matching each rhythm and beat.

  5. كأنها تشدو بألحانها

    كاهنة في العرب سجاعه

    As if singing enchantingly,

    A soothsayer weaving magic with words.

  6. رقاصها طفل لدى مكتب

    يقرأ في الجزء بتباعه

    The dancer, a schoolboy at his desk

    Studying verse in order and rhythm.

  7. كأنها عزاً كتاب الرضا

    أينع فيه العيش أيناعه

    As if the book of contentment itself

    Where satisfaction grows lush.

  8. مولاي ابياتك قد احرزت

    غرائب الأوصاف في الساعه

    My lord, your verses have captured

    The strangest metaphors in an instant.

  9. يا مفرد الفضل الذي في معا

    ليه اقام الرأي اجماعه

    O singular in your virtuous grace

    Whose wisdom brings consensus in council.

  10. أنت ابو المجد الذي لم تزلذ

    كل رجال المجد اتباعه

    O father of glory, whom glory men

    Have always strived to follow.
