أشرقت منك في الوجود ذكاء
فجلا حالك الظلام الضياء
Intellect shone from you into existence,
So your state illuminated the darkness with light.
درة عن سنائها قد تشظى
صدف الفيض فاستضاء السناء
A pearl may shatter from its radiance,
The shell of grace then shines with brilliance.
يا إماماً سما مقاما علياً
قصرت دون شأوه الجوزاء
O Imam, your position is most sublime,
The mansions of heaven fall short of your glory.
هل نجوم السماء إلا صفات
لك زينت بزهرهن السماء
Are not the stars of the sky but your attributes?
With their blossoms the sky is adorned.
لك ذات قد أبدع الله فيها
صنعه وهو صانع ما يشاء
For you God created a being
In which He perfected His making as He willed.
عبقت من أريجها نفحات
فاستطابت بنشرها الأرجاء
From its aroma wafted scents
That delighted the surroundings with their fragrance.
نفد اللفظ وانتهى كل معنى
ومعانيك ما لهن انتهاء
Words are exhausted and meanings ended,
Yet your meanings have no end.
أنت أسنى علا وأسمى محلا
أن يداني صفاتك الإطراء
You are the highest and most exalted,
Too lofty for praises to draw near.
نزلت بالثناء آيات وحي
صادع في علاك منه الثناء
Revelations descended in your praise,
Proclaiming your supremacy loudly.
أنت في نعته إمام مبين
أحصيت في بيانه الأشياء
You are the evident Imam in His description,
Enumerating all things in His exposition.
ملأ الله صدرك الرحب علماً
ضاق عن بعض ما حواه الفضاء
God filled your vast heart with knowledge,
Too confined for what the heavens contain.
دل مكنونه على الغيب حتى
كشف الستر دونه والغطاء
Its hidden contents point to the unseen,
Uncovering the veil and covering.
من هداه السبيل كان ولياً
لك يا من ولاؤه الاهتداء
Whoever You guide finds the path,
Becoming loyal to You is true guidance.
لا يجوز الصراط إلا محب
منك يعطى الجواز وهو الولاء
None cross the Bridge but the loving ones,
Given passage through loyalty and devotion to You.
ولك الكوثر الذي منه تسقى
شبعة الحق والقلوب ظماء
To you belongs the Abundance from which
The seekers of truth drink their fill, while hearts thirst.
عصمة الخائفين من كل هول
يوم لا عاصم ولا شفعاء
The refuge of those fearing every horror
On a day with neither protectors nor intercessors.
باب علم النبي خير البرايا
أنت وهو المدينة الفيحاء
You are the portal of the Prophet’s knowledge,
The best of creations, and the shining Madinah.
عندك العلم وهو علم كتاب
سخرت طوع حكمه الأشياء
With you lies knowledge - the knowledge of the Book,
Subjugating all things to its command.
لم يكن عند آصف غير جزء
منه واستجمعت لك الأجزاء
Asaf had but a fraction of it,
While you compiled all sections.
يوم وافى بالعرش طرفة عين
وإذا الشام عنده صنعاء
On the day when the Throne comes near
While Sheba to him is Sanaa.
أنت يا صنو أحمد منه كالضوء
من الضوء حبذا الأضواء
You are the radiance to Ahmad’s lamp,
How excellent are radiances from light!
أنت وازرته وكنت أخاه
يوم عزت وزارة واخاء
You supported and counseled him,
In days of honor, support and brotherhood.
كنت في ليلة الفراش وقاء
حين لم يلف للنبي وقاء
You were his defender when he slept
At times when none would defend the Prophet.
ثابت الجأش طامناً لا تبالي
وسيوف العدى إليك ظماء
Steadfast though swords thirsted for you,
You did not waver or worry.
بين فضلك الجلي ولكن
لا ترى الشمس مقلة عمياء
Your manifest virtue, but eyes do not see
The sun impaired or blind.
