حيت شآبيب الندى
بالمأزمين معهدا
Where the young dew
Meets the wine-makers,
منازلا كان بها
عيشي رقيقاً رغدا
A dwelling where
My life was soft and plentiful.
عيش وال اسعف
الدهر به وأسعدا
A life the days never blessed more,
Nor made happier.
كم غازلت عيني بها
خشفاً غريرا اغيدا
How my eyes flirted with it,
Bashfully, coquettishly, singing.
اغن ساجي اللحظ
في اجفانه سيف الردى
The sword of fate sings
In its eyelids,
يا من رأى غزيلا
بالطرف صاد اسدا
O you who saw a gazelle
With a glance that hunted a lion,
يربك في ابتسامه
عقد جمان نضدا
Your smile snares
A string of pearls.
يا كامل الحسن اسقني
رضابك المبردا
O perfect of beauty, give me to drink
Your cooling life-draught,
واطف غليل مهجة
ذابت عليك كمدا
And quench the fever of my love
That melts for you like that candle.
وارث لصب ليله
عاد عليه سرمدا
And inherit the pouring of the night
That returned upon it eternally.
فليس عدلا ان ابي
ت هائماً مسهدا
For it is not just that I live
Wandering, raving, sleepless,
الا لمدح قاسم
نجل الهمام أحمدا
Unless praising Qasim,
Son of the illustrious Ahmad,
المنعم المفضال و
الشهم الكريم محتدا
The benefactor, the generous one,
The valiant, steadfast hero.
كالغيث والليث لدى
يومي نزال وندى
Like rain and lion in
The day of battle and strife
قد كاد يحكيه الحيا
لو كان يهمي عسجدا
Life itself would speak of him
If it were able to praise and extol.
والسابق المدرك من
شأو العلى اقصى المدى
The outstanding one, attaining
The highest extremity of the lofty goal,
يروي حديث فضله
موثقاً ومسندا
He relates the narrative of his virtue
Verified and well-founded.
مناقب كالشهب نو
را وسناً وعددا
His merits like the stars
Giving light, numbering, counting.
الفاضلين المحسنين
الحائزين السؤددا
The excellent, beneficent ones
Who prevail and help.
كل همام يطرق
النادي له إذا انتدى
Every protector who enters
The gathering when he sits
يا راكباً يطوى الفيا
في فد فدا ففد فدا
O rider who crosses the horizon
In continual salvation and aid
مدلجاً ينص للمسرى
نجاة أجدا
Bringing to the journey of life
Escape and deliverance.
يمم بها مغنى السما
ح الماجد المصمدا
With it the heaven of glory
Extols the glorious, steadfast one.
تلق به بحر الندى
طامي العباب مزبدا
Meet him with the sea of dew
Surging with foam.
يا محسناً غادرني
احسانه مقيدا
O benefactor who left me
Bound by gratitude for his favors
بشكر نعماه التي
قد غاض فيها الحسد
Which overflowed despite envy.
He who thanks custom and he who disbelieves
لا يستوي من شكر
العرف ومن قد جحدا
Are not equal.
I remain hopeful of attaining glory,
بقيت مأمول الجدى
معظماً ممجدا
Revered and glorified,
The patron saints are a blessing
للأولياء نعمة
ونقمة على العدى
And the enemies a curse.
The bird did not rhyme
ما سجع الطائر في
اغصانه وغرّدا
In its branches, and sing.
