قَد يَقطَعُ الكاشِحونَ بَينَ ذَوي ال
وُدِّ وِصالاً قَد كانَ مُتَّفِقا
The spiteful may sever the bond between those joined by
affection—a union that once was harmonious—
إِذا مَشَوا بِالنَميمِ بَينَهُمُ
مَلَّ الجَميعُ الصَفاءَ فَاِفتَرَقا
when they move between them bearing malicious tales;
each grows weary of goodwill, and the two part,
حَتّى يَصيرَ الجَميعُ هَمُّهُمُ ال
تُهمَةُ في قَولِ أَيِّهِم نَطَقا
until all they care about is
suspicion in whatever either one of them says.
