بُنَيَّ إِذا ما سامَكَ الذُلَّ قاهِرٌ
عَزيزٌ فَبَعضُ الذُلِّ أَبقى وَأَحرَزُ
My son, when a conqueror subjects you to humiliation—
a mighty one—some humiliation better preserves and protects.
وَلا تَحمَ مِن بَعضِ الأُمورِ تَعَزُّزاً
فَقَد يورِثُ الذُلَّ الطَويلَ التَعَزُّزُ
Do not shrink from certain courses out of pride,
for pride may bring enduring humiliation.
