قُل لِذي الوُدِّ وَالصَفاءِ حُسَينٍ
أَقدِرِ الوُدَّ بَينَنا قَدَرَه
Say to the one of affection and purity, Husain
I appreciate the love between us, for what it's worth
لَيسَ لِلدابِغِ المُحَلَّمِ بُدٌّ
مِن عِتابِ الأَديمِ ذي البَشَرَه
The tanner has no choice
But to endure the leather's reproach
لَستُ إِن زاغَ ذو إِخاءٍ وَوُدٍّ
عَن طَريقٍ بِتابِعٍ أَثَرَه
If one of brotherly love strays
From the path, I do not follow his trail
بَل أُديمُ الثَناءَ وَالوُدَّ حَتّى
يَتبَعَ الحَقَّ بَعدُ أَو يَذَرَه
Rather, I persist in praise and affection until
Truth is later followed, or abandoned
