1. العَينُ تُبدي الَّذي في قَلبِ صاحِبِها

    مِنَ الشَناءَةِ أَو وُدّاً إِذا كانا

    The eye reveals what is in its owner's heart

    Of malice or affection when they are combined

  2. إِنَّ العَدُوَّ لَهُ عَينٌ يُقَلِّبُها

    لا يَستَطيعُ لِما في القَلبِ كِتمانا

    Indeed the enemy has an eye he turns about

    Unable to conceal what is in his heart

  3. وَعَينُ ذي الوُدِّ ما تَنفَكُّ مُقلَتُها

    تُبدي لَهُ مِحجَراً بَشّاً وَإِنسانا

    While the eye of a friend does not cease winking

    Revealing to him glad tidings and humanity

  4. فَالعَينُ تَنطِقُ وَالأَفواهُ صامِتَةٌ

    حَتّى يَرى مِن ضَميرِ القَلبِ تِبيانا

    So the eye speaks while mouths are silent

    Until the heart's conscience becomes clear
