1. إِن كُنتِ لا تَدرينَ ما المَوتُ فاِنظُري

    الى هانىءٍ في السوقِ وابنِ عقيلِ

    If you do not know what death is, look

    At Hani in the market and Ibn Aqil

  2. إِلى بطَلٍ قَد هَشَّمَ السَيفُ وَجهَهُ

    وَآخَرَ يَهوي مِن طمارِ قَتيلِ

    At the hero whose face the sword has shattered

    And another who plunges from the slain's mantle

  3. أَصابَهُما أَمرُ الأَميرِ فَأَصبَحا

    أَحاديثَ من يَسري بِكُلِّ سَبيلِ

    Fate from the prince has struck them

    They are tales for those who go down every road

  4. تَرى جَسَداً قَد غَيَّرَ المَوتُ لَونَهُ

    وَنَضحَ دَمٍ قَد سالَ كُلَّ مسيلِ

    You see a body whose hue death has changed

    And blood poured that flowed down each brook

  5. فَتى هُوَ أضحيا مِن فَتاةٍ حَييَّةٍ

    وَأَقطَعُ من ذي شَفرَتَين صَقيلِ

    A youth who was sacrificial prey from a vivacious girl

    And severed by the two sharpened blades

  6. أَيَركَبُ أَسماءُ الهَماليجَ آمِناً

    وَقَد طَلبتَهُ مَذحِجٌ بِذُحولِ

    Will Asma ride safe

    When Madhij has sought him out insistently

  7. تُطيفُ حَوالَيهِ مُرادٌ وَكلُهُم

    عَلى رِقبَةٍ مِن سائِلٍ وَمَسولِ

    Murad's kinsmen circle around

    All with necks of questioning and imploring

  8. فان أَنتُم لَم تثأروا بِأَخيكُمُ

    فَكونوا بَقايا أُرضيَت بِقَليلِ

    So if you do not avenge your brother

    Then be remnants satisfied with little
