1. فررتُكَ يا جَذَعاً يسنُّه

    من العلم عن مُصْعَبٍ بازلِ

    I examined your teeth, O young camel—made older

    by learning than a full-toothed, unbroken sire.

  2. حَلَلْتَ من العلم في ذِرْوةٍ

    مَحلَّ السنام من الكاهلِ

    You have taken your place at knowledge’s summit,

    where the hump rests upon the withers.
